Sopore, Sep 23 (KNO): Unemployed agriculture graduates from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Wadura, continued their protest for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, seeking a clear employment roadmap and reforms in the recruitment framework in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protesters, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), raised slogans and demanded a review of SRO-442 of 2017, which changed the recruitment structure for Junior Agriculture Extension Officer (JAEO) posts.
They sought restoration of direct recruitment opportunities, identification and filling of vacant posts, timely recruitment notifications, and a predictable recruitment calendar for agriculture professionals.
"We have spent years pursuing professional degrees, but after completing our education, there are limited opportunities in our own field. We want the government to review the recruitment framework," said Aadil Wani, one of the protesters.
Another protester, Zobia Khannum, said agriculture graduates were facing uncertainty due to the lack of regular recruitment.
"We want a clear recruitment calendar and a mechanism to identify and fill vacant posts. It has been 20 years since any recruitment advertisement was issued," she said.
The protesters urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Jammu and Kashmir government to intervene and initiate dialogue with their representatives.
They said they would continue their peaceful protest until their demands were addressed—(KNO)
